The mysterious absence of Ricky Starks from AEW took an interesting turn on Saturday when Absolute made a surprise appearance in GCW.
Starks crashed the party at GCW Dream On (Nov. 23, 2024) inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, NJ. “Broski” Jimmy Lloyd was yapping his gums when he was interrupted by Starks arriving down the escalator. Absolute wore a stylish sleeveless white jacket and no shirt. You know, the typical mall shopping outfit for Louis Vuitton. When Lloyd threw some shade, Starks kicked him in the gut and hit a DDT.
Promo time for Absolute. Starks was on top of his game with a passionate delivery.
Lloyd went for a cheapshot clothesline. Starks ducked then ran the ropes for a spear. Hit the man’s music!
That surprise appearance from Starks was electric. It really shows what AEW has been missing out on. There has never been a clear reason publicly stated for why Starks has been shelved. It’s not like he is banned. Starks was photographed later in the evening backstage at Full Gear, also in New Jersey.
Tony Khan was asked a question about Starks in the post-show media scrum. On the topic of the status of Kenny Omega and Starks having matches outside AEW, Khan gave a generic answer without tipping his hand, “Well, I think you got to keep an eye on the future, not to give away things, but I’m very excited about having our stars participate in other promotions.” Since the question and answer grouped Omega and Starks together, it is tough to know how much of that applies to Starks returning in AEW. Khan did add a few positive words about how Starks was a great champion.
