Private Party didn’t seem nervous coming to the ring for their AEW Tag Team championship defense against The Hurt Syndicate on the Jan. 22 Dynamite, but they probably should have been.
With Montell Vontavious Porter hyping them up from commentary, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin didn’t waste any time making this a two-on-one affair, putting Zay (aka Isiah Kassidy) through the announce desk MVP had been sitting at.
Quen (aka Marq Quen) fought valiantly alone and kept his team’s title run alive for a few more minutes. Private Party got a couple nearfalls, but you could feel the Lashley spear that ended this one coming from a mile away.
The Hurt Syndicate are now World Tag champs, their first AEW gold, and Lashley’s first-ever Tag title. Private Party’s run ends a little shy of three months, and they’ll now regroup. That started as Mark Briscoe checked on them at ringside tonight in Knoxville.
We’ll see what’s next for the new and former champs in the weeks to come.
